teacher feature: Kolette and Jason Hall

We're back with another teacher feature, shining our spotlight on Kolette and Jason Hall.  Kolette and Jason are team-teaching an inspiring new workshop called The Art of Becoming More.
Kolettejason2_3
Registration for this truly unique workshop closes on May 21st, and it's just an amazing classroom.  I love this classroom and the materials for many reasons.

First, the fun stuff:
Kolette has created some simply beautiful downloadable quotes and doodles -- they're perfect embellishments for cards and notes and all kind of scrapbook projects.

Artofmore

You can't get a perfect little piece of art like this one anyplace but this workshop -- and when you register you'll get one every single day!  (Don't worry that class is underway -- the materials are all in the classroom waiting for you!)  If that isn't enough, she's opened a Cafe Press store, too -- only accessible through the workshop, where you can get many of her designs on shirts, bags, buttons, mousepads....all sorts of wonderful items.  I've got to buy some high school graduation gifts and think that I'm going to find what I need in her shop, by the way.

Second, the crafty stuff:
In this workshop, Kolette has some amazing prompts for layouts in a totally cool mini-album.  I've made a few of these fabulous Making Memories 6" x 9" albums because I love the unique size -- but Kolette has come up with some amazing layout ideas that really make the most of this album's size -- and when you add her cool new stamps, then the fun really begins.  Plus, there are awesome bonus projects (even a few to keep the scrapbook space tidy and inspirational).  Class will keep you happily crafting and give you inspiration for your other projects, too.

Finally, the BIG stuff:
Kolette and Jason have poured their hearts and souls into creating a thought-provoking workshop like no other (and if you remember Kolette's Art of Choosing Joy, I think she's even outdone herself with this one).  At its core, this workshop isn't about making pretty projects for their own sake (though that's a fun part), and it's not about the cool t-shirts, either.  Kolette and Jason have crafted  amazing audio files where they walk us through what it takes for each one of us to  become MORE of the person each of us is designed to be. I love that they teach together -- offering different but complementary perspectives on issues we all deal with every single day.  They show us how they've dealt with adversity and triumphed -- and their experiences are incredibly thought-provoking and inspiring. In the tumultuous world we live in, it's easy to grow discouraged, frustrated, or to despair at times....and Kolette and Jason understand that, but also know how to turn adversity into triumph, frustration into positive work.  I've gained so much from working with them on their materials that I encourage you out there to read more and sign up -- become more of the person you are, celebrate yourself, and join us!

p.s. Mother's Day was Sunday, but I think this would be a wonderful gift for a mom, grandmother -- because nearly all of us were started off by a motherly figure who knew we could become MORE.  Also, this class is perfect for a new graduate -- or anyone who enjoys crafting and seeks an amazing, uplifting experience!

teacher feature: Georgana Hall

Georgie_41608_small_3
I'm so excited to start our new Teacher Feature with a spotlight on Georgana Hall!

Georgana Hall is the adorable president of Adornit -- Carolee's Creations. If you haven't visited Adornit's website lately, check it out. Not only are there fabulous papercrafting products, but there are digital designs and these amazing vinyl clings, too. (And a paper giveaway -- love that!) I love Georgana's computer with its vinyl cling -- and am thinking that these would look pretty darned adorable on my metal magnet boards, too.

One of the things I love about Georgana is her focus on her family -- Carolee's Creations is named for her mom, Carolee, and they've been in the crafting business for many years. Her family works together and has fun together -- and if you value family time too, then look out later in the year for Georgana's All about Family class to return to BPS.

Georgana has taught several workshops at Big Picture Scrapbooking...and right now she's getting kits ready for her Women in my Life Projects Now class -- because it's perfect for Mother's Day gifts or a keepsake for yourself. These kits contain everything you need to create four fabulous projects -- so there are enough gifts to go around (or you may keep some and share some -- we won't tell).

Seriously, check out this kit below-- Georgana's family makes the wooden trays by hand, and the papers and embellishments are beautiful. In class you'll get detailed instructions to complete the tray, two layouts, and a mini-album -- so the class and kit are a great value. I got a kit last year and it was great fun -- so pick one up before they're gone!

p.s. I had to come back and edit the post because I cannot believe I didn't mention Georgana's adorable Etsy shop again. (Since I'm a wee bit obsessed with Etsy, that's just hard to believe.) Anyway, look at her picture: her headband, necklace, and bracelet are all handmade by Georgana and available in her shop -- along with some other fabulously unique pieces!

Celebrate Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day from all of us at Big Picture Scrapbooking! We hope you will be inspired by the eco-friendly abundance of ideas out there online and in your corner of the earth.

If you want to incorporate environmentally-friendly supplies into your scrapbooks, then Stacy has some great suggestions for you on her blog.

I'd encourage each of you to do one simple thing for the earth, every day: carry a bag with you when you shop. Most scrapbookers have totes already, and I've found that my papers and new supplies make it home safely when I bring my tote with me -- so carrying a bag is good for my stuff and for the environment! And if you don't have a tote large enough to carry paper safely, click here for a great selection.

p.s. In my Cambridge tote bag, I carry a flip and tumble bag -- love how easy it is to repack, so finally I have a bag I never forget, and the designers are genuinely cool folks who run a cool little company. Admittedly, it's not great for 12x12 papers, but it's great for just about everything else.

just a few fun things...

We're working away on lots of new classes at Big Picture! I've been working with Gretchen and Kolette and love the content for both of their classes...so check those out here. I also know of a few cool new classes that will appear very soon on our Coming Soon page....so watch for Darci Dowdle, Lisa Damrosch, Georgana Hall, and May Flaum to return to that page. And then there are so many new Projects Now in the works....I will keep you posted!

Speaking of Georgana (and I don't know if she saw my post last August confessing my discovery of Etsy), she's opened the cutest little shop on Etsy! Etsy is just such a cool place....when I want to browse for inspiration or for shopping, that's where I go. I look at all sorts of things...for example, I love fabrics and twill tape from Japan like the ones you'll find here -- great color combinations for scrapbooking inspiration even if you don't use the fabric in your albums...but you could!

A March 17th to Remember

Luckyyou

Do you feel lucky?  We do:  lucky to know the fun and joy of scrapbooking, where we make sure each year is a year to remember.  We had so much fun with Heidi Swapp last year, making 2007 a year to remember, that we are continuing the fun – and we’d feel so lucky if you’d join us for some Heidi Highlights, where we will bring you some fabulous projects from Heidi’s 2007 year-long class!

We’re starting out with a fun and festive class just in time for March 17th – so even if you’ve never before had a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, click here to register and download the first Projects Now class in the Heidi Highlights series.  When you enter the classroom, you’ll find everything you need to create a fabulous mini-album celebrating a lucky someone in your life, and you’ll get some tips to have a fabulous St. Patrick’s Day celebration from start to finish!

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – and your luck – with Heidi and BPS!

because scrapbooking matters

I hope you will join us this week as we celebrate our hobby with Lisa Damrosch, one of the veteran teachers here at BPS. Lisa has designed an adorable album for us to customize as she prompts us to think about what we do and why we do it.....and the answers to those questions are deeper, and more important, I dare say, than we might think. We scrapbook for ourselves and for others and deserve to celebrate this hobby -- it's what brought us all to BPS, after all! Please join us -- this class is really BIG!

By the way, we had a great time the first time this class ran, and so many people loved it that we decided to bring it back -- so don't miss it, as it probably won't come around again! I love working with Lisa -- and know you will too! Plus, we're working on an all-new Lisa Damrosch workshop for you product junkies out there....so if you've heard about her product-based classes, this student-loved workshop is a great way to get to know her, too!
