My tip is to hire a mother's helper. A young, energetic interested young person (around 10 -12) that wants experience to build up their "resume" for future babysitting. I had to try and try again until I found the right one, but this young girl provides much needed time for me to work upstairs on my computer during my teaching season, provides me a mental break during my husband's business trips, and truly enjoys playing right along side my children. I have her about 3-4 hours a week and it gives me just enough time to feel caught up on whatever I need to do so I am more present in my children's lives and ready to play alongside them too. It is more affordable than a babysitter, you are right there if something happens, and it is an awesome opportunity to provide a young person the opportunity to learn responsibility. I just love my mother's helper.

This really works! My daughter was a mother's helper, and now her 10-y-o daughter, my ONLY granddaughter so far, does this too, and she is great at it.
When you find the right helper, you can relax and know that your child or children are playing and having fun, NOT redecorating the kitchen for you while you dash downstairs to tend to whatever. Well worth the effort to find the right girl.
My daughter got most of her customers from the young mothers group at church.
